Your baby is breech at 32, 34, 36 weeks. Your OB has mentioned external cephalic version or is already discussing cesarean delivery. You are not opposed to either option if it comes to that, but you are also not ready to stop looking for something that might support the baby turning before the decision becomes urgent. The Webster Technique, which Dr. Korrin is certified in through the ICPA, is the most commonly used chiropractic protocol for supporting optimal fetal positioning. Here is an honest explanation of what it does and what the evidence shows.

Breech Presentation and the Webster Technique

A breech presentation means the baby is positioned bottom-down or feet-down in the uterus rather than head-down as the due date approaches. At 28 weeks, roughly 25% of babies are breech. By 36 weeks, that drops to approximately 3-4% as most babies spontaneously turn. The babies who have not turned by 36-37 weeks are the presentations that bring families to Vita Nova in the third trimester.

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic protocol developed for prenatal patients. It focuses on the sacrum and sacroiliac joints, the structural foundation of the pelvis, and on the soft tissue structures connecting the uterus to the pelvic wall: the round ligaments and the uterine supporting muscles. The underlying premise is that when the sacrum is misaligned or the SI joints carry asymmetrical restriction, and when the round ligaments carry unequal tension, the uterus cannot sit symmetrically within the pelvis. That intrauterine constraint is one of the factors that can limit fetal movement and positioning. Reducing that constraint by correcting sacral alignment and round ligament tension creates a more symmetrical intrauterine environment.

A retrospective study of 112 pregnant women in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that Webster Technique care had an 82% success rate in facilitating the vertex presentation of babies who were breech, with the technique showing effectiveness across all trimesters. This study is frequently cited in the literature and is the primary evidence base for Webster Technique in breech presentations. It is important to note that this was a retrospective case series rather than a randomized controlled trial, and that spontaneous version also occurs without any intervention. The honest position is that the Webster Technique creates better mechanical conditions for the baby to move, and that the evidence for its effectiveness is meaningful but not definitive.

When Families Come to Vita Nova for Breech Presentation

Most families come in during the third trimester when the breech presentation has been confirmed by ultrasound and the OB has raised the question of ECV or cesarean delivery. The most common window is between 32 and 36 weeks. Early enough that there is still time for the baby to turn, late enough that the presentation has been confirmed as persistent rather than incidental. Some families come earlier, in the second trimester, as part of their general prenatal care when they are aware of the Webster Technique and want to maintain optimal pelvic alignment throughout the pregnancy rather than waiting for a problem to develop.

How Dr. Korrin Approaches Breech Presentation

Every prenatal visit at Vita Nova includes both a Zone Technique assessment and a Webster Technique assessment. For breech presentations, the Webster protocol is the primary structural focus. Dr. Korrin assesses sacral alignment, SI joint symmetry, and round ligament tension at every visit, then adjusts the sacrum and works the round ligament soft tissue to reduce the pelvic asymmetry that may be contributing to intrauterine constraint.

The glandular zone(1) governs the hormonal signaling that regulates uterine muscle tone alongside relaxin. The muscular zone(5) tracks the round ligament and uterine support muscle tension pattern that the Webster assessment addresses structurally. Both zones are assessed alongside the Webster protocol at every visit. Care frequency for breech presentations in the third trimester is typically two to three times per week to give the pelvis and the baby the best mechanical conditions before the due date approaches.

Positioning is fully adapted for your trimester. Side-lying with body pillow support throughout. Nothing places pressure on the abdomen. The round ligament work is gentle and targeted. Most patients describe it as a comfortable deep tissue pressure at the sides of the lower abdomen, not at the uterus itself.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your first visit begins with a Zone Technique assessment and Webster Technique assessment of the pelvis. The assessment takes 15 to 20 minutes. Dr. Korrin will ask how many weeks you are, when the breech presentation was confirmed, whether there has been any ECV discussion with your OB, and what your delivery plan looks like. Bring your most recent ultrasound report if you have it. Confirming the presentation and position helps Dr. Korrin direct the Webster assessment appropriately. He will explain what the assessment finds and what care frequency makes sense given how close your due date is.

Breech presentation frequently comes with the pelvic discomfort and pressure that accompanies the baby’s positioning. The pelvic pain during pregnancy page covers how Zone Technique and Webster Technique address that alongside fetal positioning. For the broader scope of prenatal care at Vita Nova, the pregnancy chiropractic care page covers what every prenatal visit looks like. The prenatal chiropractic care service page covers the full scope of Dr. Korrin’s Webster Technique certification and what it means for prenatal patients specifically.

Dr. Korrin sees breech presentation patients from across Plano, Murphy, and Richardson at Vita Nova. Families come in most often after the OB has confirmed the breech at a third trimester ultrasound and are looking for something to try before the ECV or cesarean conversation becomes final. He is accepting new prenatal patients. Schedule your first visit as early in the third trimester as you can. The more time before the due date, the more opportunity for the pelvis to respond to care and the baby to find the right position.
